How Will Aeroplan’s 2026 Program Changes Affect Your Elite Status? Use Our Free Calculator to Find Out

Aeroplan has announced major changes to their elite status program starting in 2026, and frequent flyers across Canada are wondering how these changes will impact their hard-earned benefits. The most significant shift? The transition from the current SQM (Status Qualifying Miles) and SQD (Status Qualifying Dollars) system to a new unified SQC (Status Qualifying Credits) structure.

Understanding the New Aeroplan Program Changes

The 2026 Aeroplan program represents a fundamental restructuring of how members earn and maintain elite status. Instead of tracking both miles flown and dollars spent separately, the new system consolidates everything into Status Qualifying Credits. This change affects how you’ll earn status, what benefits you’ll receive at each milestone, and introduces new reward options that didn’t exist before.

Why Use Our Aeroplan Status Calculator?

Our free Aeroplan status calculator takes the guesswork out of understanding how these changes will affect you personally. Rather than trying to decode complex program rules and manually calculate your benefits, our tool instantly shows you:

  • Your current 2025 status and benefits based on your SQM and SQD
  • Your projected 2026 status under the new SQC system
  • A side-by-side comparison of eUpgrades, Priority Rewards, and Aeroplan points
  • New benefits you’ll gain (like Maple Leaf Lounge passes)
  • Whether you’ll maintain, gain, or lose status under the new program

Key Features That Make a Difference

Our calculator accounts for crucial factors that significantly impact your status calculation:

Fare Class Breakdown: Economy Standard fares earn 2x SQC per dollar, while Flex and higher fares earn 4x SQC. This difference can dramatically affect your status level.

Credit Card Bonuses: Premium cardholders can earn up to 25,000 SQC annually through credit card spending, plus enjoy rollover benefits.

Partner Earnings: The new program allows up to 25,000 SQC from partners like Marriott and Starbucks – a game-changer for those who don’t fly frequently.

Choice Rewards: Select between Priority Rewards, eUpgrades, Aeroplan points, or Maple Leaf Lounge passes at various milestones.

Make Informed Decisions About Your Travel Strategy

With Aeroplan’s new program launching in 2026, now is the time to understand how these changes affect your travel plans and status strategy. Our calculator helps you make informed decisions about credit card choices, partner spending, and booking strategies to maximize your benefits under the new system.

Try our free Aeroplan status calculator today and discover exactly how the 2026 program changes will impact your elite status journey.

Great tool. One thing I’d selecta/add is the “BONUS SQC” milestone to help attain the next status level. I’m JUST shy of retaining SE for 2027 based on the calculator so i would select BONUS SQC as opposed to additional E-upgrades or Aeroplan points.

Thanks for the suggestion! Just implemented a “Prioritize Status” option. Give it a try!

Great calculator. Is there a way to show what would be “rolled over” into the next year, assuming a priority card?

Yes, enable Premium Credit Card and the calculator will show you the roll over for each program.

This is a great tool! Thank you so much for sharing.
Regarding aeroplan points change, it is quite complicated for my case. I normally do 3 YYZ-SYD, 2 YYZ-SIN, 2 YYZ-PVG every year, I estimated that I will lose over 200K aeroplan points (much more than 55,000 as shown in difference summary) due to change from distance base to amount spent. Do you have a tool to calculate the points variance?

    Thanks 😊

Thanks, the tool is only comparing/calculating status miles and the respective milestone or threshold gift you would of received.
In the current program, at 150k SQM and 200k SQM, you receive a 20k and 35k Aeroplan bonus gift respectively. In the new program distance doesn’t matter – only spend (and fare class).

Keep in mind, if you are looking to compare earned Aeroplan points (not status), there is a multiplier earned based on status.

This is great. Would be even better if it accounted for the bonus AP point threshold bonuses in the old system. I’m likely to reach SE by a big margin, but I’ll earn 450,000 fewer points on the new system unless I sacrifice priority rewards. The calculator doesn’t currently factor that in.

Appreciate the feedback. I have the calculator auto pick the AC Gift card, but you’re right the AP would be 450k extra!

Just added the feature, you now have a toggle in the current program card that switches between bonus points or GC!

Great, now I’m sad. 490,000 fewer AP points per year in the new system!

Thank you for putting this calculator togther. Much Appreciated.
Air Canada is definetly trying to smash loyal customers and SE’s with this change.
After being a corporate Super Elite for 15 years, on this new program I have to work hard just to make 50K.
Spending over $500K over 15 years, Air Canada is screwing loyal weekly customers to
prioritze people coming in off the street who fly 4 times a year but spend $100K on their credit card.
This is a Dollars over Loyal Customers excercise.
If you fly over 100 segments a year, but your corporation has set a ‘lowest airfare plus $100’ that means you can’t book Flex tickets, and if all your Airfair and Hotel go on a corporate Credit Card, then good luck making status.
    Thanks Air Canada, you suck.
